How Wise Works

WISE is built around a simple but powerful belief:

At the heart of WISE is the belief that talent and potential exist everywhere, but opportunity does not. WISE identifies promising students in underserved rural communities and walks alongside them throughout their educational journey, rather than supporting them for only one stage of school. This means looking beyond tuition to understand the different barriers a student may face, providing the support and opportunities that help them grow, encouraging them to reach as far as their abilities and ambitions can take them, and involving the people and communities around them. Ultimately, WISE seeks to help students develop not only academically, but also in confidence, experience and purpose—with the expectation that, as they progress, they will use what they have gained to give back and help create opportunities for others.

The WISE model is shaped by six core principles that guide everything we do.

High Hanging Fruit means reaching promising students and communities where educational opportunity is hardest to reach.

360° Support recognises that tuition alone is not enough, so students receive the broader support they need to succeed.

No Ceilings means walking alongside students throughout their educational journey, supporting them as far as their ability and ambition can take them.

Beyond the Classroom recognises that education extends beyond academic achievement through experiences, exposure, literacy, technology and other opportunities.

Teamwork reflects the belief that students succeed through a network of families, teachers, communities, partners, donors and WISE staff.

Giving Back reflects the expectation that WISE students and graduates will use their experiences and opportunities to contribute to others and help create opportunities for the next generation.

every promising student should have the opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of where they come from or the barriers they face. Rather than providing support for only one stage of a student’s education, WISE walks alongside students throughout their educational journey, removing barriers, expanding opportunities and surrounding them with the support they need to thrive. The Six Principles of WISE are the foundation of this approach. Together, they shape how we identify students, support their growth, create opportunities beyond the classroom, work with families and communities, and ultimately encourage students to use their education and experiences to give back.
