Each year the WISE board comes together from our various locales for an in-person board meeting, plotting our strategy and goals for the next year. This year in September, the board met in Springfield, Missouri, and welcomed three new members, This year, our board increased to seven, with the additions of a millennial research psychologist (Micaela Haglund-Wong), a retired US Army officer (Inger Nilsson) and a refugee from South Sudan, now a Ph.D. in nursing in Arizona — all women, two of whom have visited project headquarters and outlying villages in Kaoma District in 2018.

Maggie Indopu, with her new title of Zambia Director, joined us via Skype for a lengthy, enlightening discussion. We held our election of officers, voted on new staff titles and created several committees. Into the mix we threw opportunities to become acquainted with new board members with lovely walks, excellent meals at host Pat Stockford’s home and scrumptious dinners at Springfield restaurants.

Evan now holds the title of US Director to reflect the fact that his and Maggie’s positions are of equal status. Joanne was elected President of the board, Nila re-elected as Treasurer and Evan as Secretary.
